Basic overview of a simple patio project. Used the Quikcrete Walk Maker country stone form to make a 133 sqft patio. Stained the concrete using Eagle acid stain, and sealed it with Behr wet-look sealer. Project cost around $500.
PlantMasters garden tour this month is designed by The Plant Goddess Landscaping Company, namely Kelley Hanna. Located in Sierra Madre, California, Kelley has taken an ordinary Southern California suburban front yard space and turned it into an extraordinary eye-catching showpiece! She paints with bright oranges and yellows, succulents and plants with variegated leaves. This garden will catch your eye year round. All turf has been removed, and there is just the right amount of rock in the garden. The predominance of succulents makes this garden highly water efficient and a winding flagstone walkway branches off in two directions. The space feels like the entrance to a botanical garden even though its really an entrance to a home.
Garden of the Week visits Los Altos Hills in the Bay Area of California to take a look at a project designed by Connie Lefkowits. This elegant front yard garden is designed for both beauty and practicality. The space had to work for active children (evidenced by the basketball hoop in the drive way) meaning lots of foot traffic and errant basketballs. It is a long narrow front yard and Connie defined the space with some wonderful stonework near the street. A massive Deodar Cedar dominates the area and the design weaves its tapestry beautifully around it. The long driveway which would overwhelm most garden spaces is redefined in stonework and ground cover to soften the appearance.
